TRAVEL REPORT

September 8 - 12, 2014

Seminar Overview

The most exciting and awaited part of being an IT student is the subject “Field Trips and Seminars”, a part of Institute of Computing’s curriculum in University of Southeastern Philippines. The chosen model of our field trip includes minor and major field trip and for this year, Manila is our destination for our major field trip. The class spend five (5) days to visit different IT companies and universities which are part of the field trip package and this includes Accenture, IBM, PLDT, Ideaspace foundation, Y4IT (a seminar), Toshiba Storage Device, Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) and University of the Philippines (UP).

As students attend this field trip, they will able to experience and observe the environment of their chosen fields. Visiting huge companies and great universities in line to their courses is great chance to know more the course they are enrolled in and what is the real world they will be encountered as they will soon receive their diplomas. Through this trip, students will meets some professionals and speakers in line to their course which will give them encouragements and new ideas by listening to their lectures and discussions. As the goal of this trip, students are expected not only to enjoy and have the pleasure upon staying and visiting different companies for few days, but also to learn important things that will be used for the future.

DAY 1

As the whole class arrive to Manila, we we’re picked out by a Bus supported by the Manilad Agency and had our breakfast to McDonalds which is not far from the said airport. After our tummies were full, we went to our first company visit destination which is the Accenture located at Eastwood City. The Eastwood itself is really a big and a busy place where you can see many professionals.  We get there maybe some minutes or almost an hour. We were guided as we went to the room where we will have the discussion. After we had some small talks about the company’s history and answering the questions raised by our classmates, we went out to get some lunch. We took our lunch to Kenny Rogers found in Kaitpunan, Quezon City. After we finished our lunch, we proceed to our next company visit which is the IBM located at Ayala Technohub, Quezon City. The class we’re able to meet and had listened to some important things discussed by our IBM speaker. After the talks and showing their servers, we went to Trinoma as part of or shopping/malling time. In that evening, we took our dinner in the Great Eastern Hotel located at Makati and with that, we check in to the Kabayan hotel which is located at EDSA, Pasay City.

What I learned?

From the discussions, I was able to know what are their goals and what’s the purpose of the companies we had visited. For the Accenture, I also discover that they really expand or optimize the skills of their employees like what the speaker said that there are some instances that you will be assigned to any departments as you had the skills needed to a particular project to that department. I also discover that, the Accenture looks for the welfare for their employees. They have many activities which is for their employees like sports fest and having some clubs or groups which are served as an extra-curricular of the employees.

As we went to IBM, I also discover that they had a great stuff called IBM Watson which is a cognitive technology that processes information like a human being. It was great and amazing that it can answer a question and works some thinking process like a human being. From the video, the IBM Watson beats the two champions and it amaze me how it happened knowing that it doesn’t connects into an internet or anything from the web. I also learned that there are two IBM in Manila but they different task.

What I liked?

What I liked from the companies we had visit in the first day is that both are well-organized and composed. Staffs are doing well in performing their task like how they accommodate the class. As our co-members has some questions regarding to the discussion, speakers were nice in addressing those questions and answered it properly.

What I didn’t liked?

As regards to the presentation of the speaker in the Accenture, the only thing I didn’t like is he talks so fast in the point that there are some topics or some important points that was not clear to me. And because I didn’t catch up some of his words, I was not able to ask some questions regarding to his discussion. Though he talks so fast, still I learn something as our co-participants ask some questions which were answered by the speaker.

DAY 2

After we had our breakfast early in the morning, we went to PLDT located at Mandaluyong. We had some small discussion on how it starts and the time line of the PLDT itself. As we had finished our tour in the first floor, we were guided by some employee and also the speaker to roam more in their place. We had our pictorial first then proceed to the next part of their place. We were able to see their products in their rooms and also asks some questions to know more. We we’re also able to listen to some speakers and see how their products works. After we visit the PLDT and had our lunch in the bus which was a take out in the KFC. Few minutes I guess, we got to our next company visit and it was at Dela Rosa St., Makati which Ideaspace foundation is located. We were able to meet some speakers and enjoy the discussion with them. We were able also to meet a successful technopreneur which has a great application. He said some inspiring words and share some experience with his group as they start and we’re be successful in their idea. The Ideaspace also give some stickers and T-shirts to the whole class.

What I learned?

As we visit the PLDT, I learned the history of the PLDT that was said by the first speaker who roam us around in the first floor of the building. She showed and discussed the history starting from 1928 up to the present. Part of the discussion was company’s timeline including the age of birth, destruction, hope, change, control, revolution, transformation, and fast forward and through this, I was able to learn that technology is really dynamic and always changing. From the changes, the company we’re able also to change itself following the flow of different generations. The first speaker also said that the PLDT owns many things mentioning that they don’t only focus to one like in the field of technology, which I think is the reason why PLDT is on the track of business competition and still alive. After some talks regarding to the history and some information about PLDT, we we’re tour around in some areas of the building. We have some discussion about their new products and have some question and answer portion which I find it nice because I learned something like about the speed of the connection and how it works with their products. We also went to their operation rooms like their contact centers, banking, enterprise, and manufacture solutions. As we went there, many questions we’re raised by our classmates as the in charge and the speakers present their products. After the QA portion, we went to a room which was the amazing part. As our speaker end with his talks, he showed us their data centers which makes my eyes WOW. From the last presentation, I was able to learn and discover the true environment of the professionals in line with my course.

The second visitation was very an inspiring one. Of all the speakers we had encountered, I guess the very energetic are the speakers of the Ideaspace. From the discussion, I learned that having a nice idea must be exposed and must be present to the world. I learned that without confidence and believing not only to yourself but also to your ideas is the key to be a successful person especially in the line of the course that I chose. I learned that nothing’s impossible as you had your skills and your creative mind.

What I liked?

From the two companies we we’re able to visit, I liked how they are approachable and how they accommodate their visitors. I like how they shared their knowledge to us and how they encourage us as a student especially in the part that we encountered the Ideaspace’ speakers. I can say that the second day visitation was really great that I was able to understand and somehow experience the possible jobs that we will have in the future.

What I didn’t liked?

For me, I didn’t like anything about the place itself or how the speakers present their presentation. The only thing that I wanted is to extend sometime in the Ideaspace and more examples of different ideas that was successful. Those examples and the discussion itself is an encouragement to me as an IT student and I wished that we had more time with the speakers to have a long and enjoy talks.

DAY 3

As soon as we’re done with our breakfast, we’re picked up by our bus going to the Philippine Youth Congress Information Technology (Y4IT) which was held at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City. The event was a whole day activity. To be early and the exact time for the registration and the program proper, we arrive to the said place at nearly or maybe 8:00 in the morning. The place was crowded attended by thousands of students from different universities and some professionals from the other and within the country. There are many speakers who shares their experiences and some words of encouragements for the participants of the events. One of the introduction was our facilitator and that made us surprised since we just know that he will give his opening remarks as we receive the list of programs. As the program start, there are also some freebies from the different area of companies like Accenture, Microsoft, Firefox, ION, and many more. We we’re able to attend the game which each of us will complete the 20 signatures to be able to attend the raffle draw which has great prices like brand new phones from acer and LG, and flash drives. After the morning event, we had took our lunch break 12:00 noon at Taste Asia which is also located at SM MOA. The group was divided by pork eater and non-pork eater. Their foods was really delicious and enough to make our tummies full. After we filled up our stomach, we came back to the place where the event was held. There were many amazing prices for raffle draw like smartphones and power banks but we didn’t won any from it. After the joyous event, we went to some place to have some walks. We had our dinner to Tramway Buffet which has also a huge place enough to cater a number of people. There are many different kind of foods which was all delicious. After we filled our stomachs, we went back in our hotel to get rest and be ready tomorrow.

What I learned?

“Harnessing the power of ME”, that was the theme for this year and it’s our first time to attend this prestigious event especially that we have the chance to hear some inspirational messages and amazing experience from different professionals and successful people in the world of IT. The opening remarks was our facilitator, Sir. Randy S. Gamboa. After he welcome all the participants of the event, the speakers starts to share their incredible ideas and their experience upon achieving their dreams and goals in life. Though I’m not in the place for the whole time due to attending the activities outside, I was able to listen some of the speakers who shared some inspirational messages and their experience as they achieve their success. I didn’t remember his name but I’m sure that I learned something from him. He discussed some important points which was the component to achieve the success. Though I can’t mention it all, one of the keys for success according to him is the confidence, perseverance, passion and patience. Actually, there are many components that he mentioned but there are few that I just remembered. Another thing that I remember is the coin-machine, I don’t remember the name of the creator of that thing but I know that his invention with his group is famous because it can help people to save money right. This speaker is the inventor of this device and he together with his group won the contest. He showed some selfies taken from the time he went to Google Company. That only shows that if you have an idea and you think that it’s helpful to everyone, why you would hide it if that’s the case? From all the things that I heard from the speakers sharing what they had, I learned that even a small idea can make a big change not only for yourself but also for the whole world.

What I liked?

Since it’s my first time to attend this kind of event, I really like the ambiance as I step my feet to the convention area. It has a wide space which can really accommodate thousands of students which are really interested in this event. It was just amazing that I’m one of those participants and given a chance to learn something new and be enlighten by the speakers. I also like the activities outside which I really enjoy though it was a tiring day for us. I enjoy completing the requirements to join the raffle draw and try to win some prices.

What I didn’t liked?

From the event we attended, I didn’t have any negative reactions or any disappointments regarding to it. It’s just regrettable that I didn’t had the chance to witness the sharing of thoughts and inspirational messages of some speakers. But in total, I really had fun and somehow, I learned something new and was enlighten by their words which really helps me to be motivated in my studying as an IT student.

DAY 4

As our usual routine of our trip, we prepared ourselves and have our breakfast and then visit the company we destined to and it was the Toshiba Storage Device located at BiƱan, Laguna. We had some discussions with the speakers about the history of Toshiba. After of some small talks, we we’re able to roam around with some areas of the building which we are only allowed. We we’re guided by their two employee since we were divided by two groups and one of them who guide us was a student before of USeP. He guide us to the place where they devices are made by their employees. Each of them are busy doing their job like arranging it and testing it if it’s good or not. We were also welcomed as we go to their laboratory which I guess the people who checks viruses or bacteria in their product. They are also a USePian before. We also saw also their Data Center and it’s quite small. We were able also to see their servers. After of roaming around and the discussion, we head to our lunch which was at Max’s Restaurant located at Tagaytay. From our position, we could clearly see the beauty of Mt. Taal. It was really relaxing and their foods are delicious.  After we had filled our stomachs and enjoyed the view, we went to the People’s park which is at the same location. Though we have a limited time to visit the place, we were able to buy some “pasalubongs” for our friends and family and had some pictures featuring the beautiful scenery of Tagaytay. Part in our field trip which was the most awaited part is to go to Enchanted Kingdom or known as EK. It took some minutes to go there. As we get there, we went inside and enjoy the ride-all-you-can. We try not all, but most of all rides. We were able to ride the terrifying Space Shuttle which turns my world upside down. We also get wet as we ride the Rio Grande Rapids and Jungle Log Jam. To dry ourselves and also experience the ride, we ride the After we had enjoyed and some of us get dizzy, we came back to the Kabayan hotel with a smile and a wonderful experience in that day.

What I learned?

From visiting the Toshiba, I learned the history of the company. According to one of the speaker who told us about the Toshiba, Toshiba was a two company which was joined together. The word Toshiba was originated from the two words, “Tokyo”, “Shibaura”. I also learned that Japanese culture is really implemented in the company. As we walked in to the place, I observed that you can’t see any mess which signifies that they really discipline when it comes to cleanliness. All of them also wears a uniform. Each of them wears it and the colors signifies their positions in the company. Even we, the visitors should wear a uniform for the reason that, bacteria or virus may affect their products and items inside the building. I also learned that each of them have their specific areas. Meaning, you have only assigned to your specific area and cannot do any other jobs unlike to the other companies we had visit.

Aside from the company visit we had, I also learn something. From visiting the Tagaytay and enjoying the rides in the EK, I learned that being responsible to our actions is very important. Though we’re there to learn and enjoy, we must control our actions to avoid problems since it’s a different place and this could affect the whole group and even the next participants who will have their field trips too. I learn that even though our parents are not there, we must keep our selves safe while enjoying ourselves. Aside from being responsible, I find out that being there at once is a big motivation for us to study hard and having the mindset that I shall return in this place. For me, it’s really a good thing that we were able to go to some places like Tagaytay and Ek.

What I liked?

From what I observed as we visit the company, I liked how they are much disciplined towards their actions and their practices inside the company. I liked how they are composed and how they make their area so clean and tidy. For me, it’s really important that a person has a discipline towards his actions. I believe that one of the factor why a person could work efficiently is the discipline of his self.

What I didn’t liked?

After roaming around and listen to the discussion, I guess I don’t have any negative feedback since I do really learned a lot and somehow enjoyed. Aside from the clean area that they had, as I said, the discipline that they had implemented really amaze me and motivates me to be a better person.

DAY 5

The last day of our field trip. After we pack up our things and finish our breakfast, we headed to Ateneo de Manila University which is at Katipunan, Quezon City. We went to their Information System and Computer Science department and have some discussion with our speaker.  We were able to see their gadgets which is really amazing. After the discussion, we took our chance to roam around the place. We take some photos and were able to enter in their store where you can find some customized shirts, ballers, and other items printed with the word “Ateneo”. After we visit the AdMU, the next place we visit is the University of the Philippines, Diliman, specifically their Computer Science Department. It was a really wide university. As we got there, we took some photos with the symbol that symbolize the UP. After that, we took our lunch in some place in UP. After we filled our stomachs, we went to the destined place we must go. As we get there, we were assisted to roam around the place. We also have the chance to interact with their students and we’re able to ask questions regarding with the thesis they presented to us. I think, we had entered four or six rooms.  After the visitation of some areas in their department, we had the chance to roam around and see their library. After we visit the two universities, we head to Resorts World Manila which was near in the NAIA airport. We were able to roam around and buy some foods. We also had taked some pictures there. As the bus come to fetch us, we headed to NAIA airport to go back home, Davao.

What I Learned?

Visiting the two universities was really unforgettable. It was a chance for us to discover what makes these universities in the top schools here in the Philippines. From the first university we visit, there are many things that I discover which makes amaze me and make me think how they are advanced in terms of the materials they had. In the discussion, the speaker show some gadgets that were used by their students in doing their projects like the Oculus, Google glass, NeuroSky and many more. I could say that with these gadgets, making an application is really exciting and it’s really an advantage to have those and to learn how to work things out using those gadgets especially for us as an IT students. In the second university we visited, UP students specifically the CS students really amaze me. They shared their thesis like they really know what they’re doing. Their thesis has a wide scope when it comes to its area and its purpose. Like the two students who have their thesis about developing an analysis which is involve in marine culture area. I learned that there are many things to do that can help the government and also the other sectors that needs an advance technology. From the presenting of their thesis, I was motivated as well as made me aware that doing the thesis is not easy. I also learned from the two universities that we had visited that the most common language they are using when it comes to programming or making an application is C/C++ though there are times that they’re using the Java.

What I liked?

First thing that I really like for the both universities that we visited is that I really learn something new from them and made me amaze how great they have especially the students they have as well as the materials they have which is really useful for nurturing the skills of the students. I also like the part that we we’re able to see and touch the gadgets presented to us from the speaker of AdMU though we we’re not able to test it since it running out of battery. I also like the part when we go to the UP and meet some great students there. Knowing that UP has really great students, it was a pleasure for me to somehow know them for a very small time. I also like how they present their thesis and answer the questions raised by some of my classmates which made me really amazed. Roaming around the campus is what I liked from the visitation we had in the two universities.

What I didn’t liked?

The fact that I really enjoyed in visiting the two universities in our last day in our field trip, I think I didn’t liked any things about it. Maybe, I was upset when we we’re not able to try the gadgets but it’s not really a big deal though. All in all, I really enjoy the tour in the two universities. I learn something new and it helps to motivate as an IT student.

APPENDICES

What can I recommend for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USEP?

Visiting companies related to the course taken by the students is really important. It helps students to have a glimpse on how it will look like as they have their jobs soon. It also helps students to acquire knowledge and discover great things in line to their fields. So, I think that in visiting companies, organizers for the field trips must choose companies that really have advance technologies especially for IT and CS students which really helps us to understand and gives us some ideas on how IT companies works and what will be the possible jobs that will be one of our options soon as we receive our diplomas. Attending some seminars for IT and CS students and participated by great professionals is also good for field trips like Y4IT which happens yearly and holds thousands of participants. Seminars like what I mentioned really helps students to understand more the chosen course and things that will be shared by the professionals will really motivates students. Also, if it’s possible, maybe students could really experience the current technologies that companies uses like the devices, software and all stuffs that helps employees do their task. I believe that having those experience will really motivate students and will fully understand the chosen field.

My advice to those who will take their advance seminar program in the near future.

Based from my experience, there are many questions and clarifications will come up as roaming around or visit a particular company. So, for those who will enroll FTS and will have the chance to visit a company, flushing away your shyness is a must. It will definitely a loss for you if you will not able to ask something and discover relevant things about your future job if you let your shyness covers you. If you have questions and clarifications in mind and you’re just nervous and too shy to ask, don’t be. Instead of being afraid to speak out your concerns because you’re afraid to approach them, then being there at that company is useless. Field trip is made not only to walk around and just let the tour ends with nothing. Field trip is made to learn something new, to earn knowledge, to be motivated by what you had discover. Also, as they visit a company or attending a seminar related to the course, lessons or important information relevant to the course must be put into mind since it could be a big help for you in the present and in the future. The most important thing and must not be forget in having a field trip is to enjoy. Though your main purpose why you’re having a company visit and attending seminars is to see and somehow experience the future job you’ll had someday, enjoying the trip is not bad at all. Capture all the places that you will visit and so that, you have a remembrance and could say to yourself that you’ve been there once. Another thing which is also important is be responsible enough towards your action. Even though you have the right to have fun in your field trip, you must think and be wise in your action to avoid some problems that will affect the whole group.

Meeting 7 (Reflection)

An emergency meeting happened on August 28, 2014. Texts from our classmates made us nervous in that time since the message was about of our upcoming major field trip and all of us has a hint on what will be discussed in that moment. We're aware that the trending issue which was the field trip incident of Bulacan State University may affect our field trip. As we heard the big announcement, all of us complained and minds were covered by worries. especially that class are aware that the tickets which cause of thousands is not refundable. Another thing that worries me that time is the possible reaction of my parents. I know that the money for the FTS is not easy to provide and they really did their best just to provide the money that I need to attend the major field trip and I know, that I'm not alone with the concern that I have in my minds in that time. Along the discussion regarding with the major field trip, we also discussed what we will do or our plan b, c, or d if ever that our field trip will be cancelled. For me, I really don't know what will be the plan B for a situation like this especially that this case involves money.

Meeting 6 (Reflection)

Our 6th meeting on August 22, 2014 was a different meeting from all meet-ups with the class that I attended in our FTS. The major field trip is the main concern in that meeting and it was connected to the trending news which was about the field trip accident of the tourism students.  Our professor discussed the accident and asks us if we would like to continue our trip that was set on the upcoming weeks. As the result, the class said that the said accident can’t change the decision to continue the planned major field trip. In the meeting, our president also reminded the class regarding with the payments. The type of clothes that should be wear in the major field trip was also discussed in the meeting. Though there are worries about the major field trip, the class we’re still excited about the upcoming trip.

Minor Field Trip - Synnex-Concentrix Damosa, Davao City

University of Southeastern Philippines
Bo. Obrero Campus, Davao City

TRAVEL REPORT
Minor Trip

August 27, 2014

Seminar Overview

The most exciting part of being a student having a third year standing is the Field Trip and Seminars (FTS) which is part of the University of Southeastern Philippines’ Institute of Computing curriculum. Part of the chosen model for our field trip is having a minor field trip here in Mindanao and this year, the class chose to visit Synnex-Concentrix which is located in Damosa IT Park Lanang, Davao City. The purpose of visiting Synnex- Concentrix is not only to tour and see the actual vicinity but also to earn knowledge how BPO companies works in providing services and offer their products to their clients using the evolving technologies nowadays. From visiting Synnex-Concentrix, we we’re able to meet IT professionals in line to our fields and see how our future jobs will be going which is a great pleasure to us as an IT students.

DAY 1

Visiting Synnex-Concentrix was a great experience to me. It answers all my questions regarding how IT companies works and somehow experience the real environment of the field that I chose. I discovered that Concentrix doesn’t only provide BPO services but also have a technical support teams for the Linksys products, web programmers assigned to NetGears and programmers designated to Application Development group. They also offers trainings that allows both outsiders and employees of the company which is a great advantage for them since it’s a Cisco training. We we’re able also to know that Concentrix also have many branches outside the country.

What I learned?

As we roam around maybe for two hours, I learned many things about the field that I took. I learned how Concentrix survive the competition of IT companies in the country. Before a person is hired as their official employee, he or she needs to undergo some trainings to enhance their skills for both communication and technical skills. As what our tourist guide shared to us, the company do the 10 days training to build up the skills needed. For example, if you’re good in communicating clients, you must also have the technical skills which requires your knowledge to operate computers. It only means that to be an efficient person in this field, you must strengthen your skills not only the strongest skills you have but also the weak points you have. I also learned that as an IT student and the standing we have now, we must know what field we are in. We must know what field in IT we would like to pursue so that, when the time comes as we are ready to have our jobs, we could focus and know to ourselves which field we want to apply. I also learned that in the world of IT which everything is always changing, we must not limit ourselves on the things we are comfortable to. Since people do innovates and invents new things, we must go with the flow to survive the competition.

What I like?

Aside from the place itself which has a refreshing ambiance due to the colors of the walls, I like how Concetrix motivates their employees. The company motivates their employees through giving some rewards to their top performers. One of the charts that we we’re able to see is the President Club chart which has a list of employees that continuously do their tasks efficiently and we’re able to have two years of experience in the company. As they we’re able to be part of that chart, they will got a reward like going to other places like Boracay and other amazing rewards. For me, if I will be their employee, it will really motivates me and I think, this kind of motivation for employees is really an effective one. One thing that I also like upon roaming around is that the company do have the activity areas where employees could have a break from their works. The building has an area which employees are allowed to play computer games and a silent lounge where they can take a nap for a while. As we went to Concentrix, they have some activities in that time like group picture taking with costumes, contest for t-shirt printing, and a breakfast event that managers serves their employees. I like their activities since it shows that being an employee doesn’t only have to work and work. As what our tourist guide in that day said, if you have a talent like dancing, singing, drawing, and other skills, in Concentrix, you will be able to use it and you can show it to other people like usual happenings in schools. They we’re able to enjoy through having activities which is a nice one. As what they said, “we work hard, we party harder”.

What I didn’t like?

Actually, as a student who visit an IT company for the first time, I can’t find something I don’t like in Concentrix. Instead, I was really amazed on how their employees works and how they talks. Part of their OP is speaking English as their medium in making conversations towards other employees. It made me really amazed how they speak since their accents could make my nose bleeds. Basing the vicinity itself, I also like it since it’s really refreshing so see the colors around the rooms. So to make it short, I don’t have any negative feedbacks for the company.

"Proposal Experience"

Shaking and sweating of hands, not full of butterflies but like there was a zoo in my stomach is what I felt in presenting my proposal in front of the class. In my years of existence, that day was one of the most intense moment in my life. It’s not new to me to stand in front and say something about a particular thing since we used to do it even in high school and elementary but that time was different. Though I’m ready to present my idea in the class and already familiarize my speech about my proposal, the worries and the uneasiness was still there. Many had tried and most of our classmate were failed to have a yes from our facilitator which makes me more nervous like I was going to faint anytime. Because of the nervous that I felt in that time, I was having doubts to continue and present my idea because of the continuous NO that we heard from our facilitator. But in the end, I took time to find my guts to stand up and try my best and luck, and expecting that I will have the boo sign in my idea. I just think in that time that even though my idea will be not accepted, at least I tried. At least, I have no regrets and I find the results. That thought was my motivation to continue and stand up with courage in the class. Surprisingly, lucky me that my idea was accepted though my words in explaining my idea were jumbled. Being accepted in that time was the best moment. That moment was like I won a million of pesos in a Lotto and make my smile so wide expanded up to my ears. The experience of presenting my idea was really a helpful one and serves as a reminder to me. It thought me that as there are opportunities in your hand, grab it and do your best to achieve it especially in the world of IT industry were everything is a competition. It reminds me that doubts and being coward to any instances will just result into regrets and just letting the opportunity to fly away.

TEAM BUILDING AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS SEMINAR

Aside from attending to minor and major field trips, participating in the Team Building and Interpersonal Skills Seminar is part in our FTS. This seminar includes many activities in which you will interact to everyone that are part in the class. Somehow, I got an idea with this kind of seminar since I have some friends who have tried it and told me about this. Based on what I had heard, it was really great and it will really help you to easily get along with the people who are also in the class. With this seminar, it will build a bond to the class so the field trip will be more fun. I’m not really excited at first with this activity. I attend this seminar for the main reason that it was a required and we will just deal with it. I attend this seminar since according to them, it’s really a helpful one for the group to know each other so that, there will be less problems regarding with how we deal to everyone when we will participate in our major fieldtrip. I’m expecting that I will just do whatever we are instructed to do and will just call it a day in the end of the day. But, as the seminar was finished, I find it really fun and just prove of what I heard about this activity.

As the seminar starts, I got nervous and I didn’t expect that. I’m just carried away with my thoughts in how I will approach our classmates which I didn’t really know. Though their faces were familiar and I can name some of them, but I don’t know who they really are since our group are made up of two groups which are from evening and day class. This uneasiness dissolves as we start our first activity. We start our activity in forming a group. Each group has a mix of day and evening students which has the aim to know others aside from the usual classmates we have. As we were able to group ourselves, knowing the names with the members happen. We were also asked to do an activity and it was naming our group. I find this activity so fun because of the kind of people that surrounds me that time. I could say that our group was one of the energetic groups because all of us jive in bringing up some ideas regarding with the activity that was ask to us. It was really funny to name a group. I was helplessly laughing in that time when we agreed to name our group as “The Winx Club”. It was not the original name of our group and it was supposed to be name as “The Powerpuff Girls” but, since we are seven in the group and there were one and a half males in the members, we decided to change it as “The Winx Club”. According to our leader, the new name in our group is perfect since it was based in a cartoon series that includes both female and male fairies so we just decided to put it in that way. After the naming of our group, we perform the activity which is providing the expectation and contributions of this activity. I was enjoyed in doing that activity to the fact that we’re getting along with each other and ignores the shyness we have. Aside from knowing them through getting along and observing to them, I enjoyed listening to the other group’s ideas. I was amaze that each of us has common ideas regarding with the expectations and contributions with this activity. The ideas that we just shared in the whole class means that each of us was willing to make this seminar exciting and successful.

After sharing of thoughts about the first activity, we proceed to the second activity which was the original first activity or the first session and it was called as the Paperclip Story. It was interesting as to its title. Since it was a paperclip story, each of us was provided some paperclips and we were ask to choose a color that represents us. We were also instructed to form a shape that signifies the real us. I could say that this activity was a great one. It let us see the real us and know much more our classmates. Each of the paperclips has own meaning of it. With its color and the formed shape, it has own significance that needs acceptance and understanding. Part of the activity is to share why you formed that shape and why you chose that color that signifies you as a being. From this activity, I was able to know how my co-members understand their selves and it amaze me how brave and willing they are to show their real selves. I was able to understand that all of us are unique. One of us her personality depends to the people that surround her. One is an open-minded person, one has passion in music, and many more things that can be relate to ourselves basing the shapes we form with our paperclips. With this activity also, I was able to evaluate if I really know myself. At this point, I could say that I can’t really say that I already know myself but at least, in this activity, I can state few things that I know in the present me. After the sharing about ourselves with the paperclips, we combine those paperclips to form a new story which was instructed to us to do. It was really fun to do. We hardly laugh of the ideas that we have and were happy to find out that even though we are very unique to each other, we can be one as a group. After the long conversation, we form a well artistic image. It was really an abstract art that only the seven of us can understand. Well, we just ignore the art factor of it and just gave the emphasis in the story. So, it was about us who just helping each other to finish what we have started in this subject. In short, it was about how we help each other as a team.

The second session was the dining table thing. In this activity, we must draw a family dining table set-up and share also what kind of set-up we had drawn. As I draw my own dining table set-up, I’m just happy of reminiscing the times when I was a child, on how I understand why our dining table set up is like that. I also remember many things in the past as our family grow, starting from the moments that I have a baby sisters and brothers and as we became seven in the family. After we draw our own dining table set-up, I just said to myself that I’m lucky enough to have a family like I have now. I can say that my experience regarding with my family is common. Though we encountered many problems, compare with the stories that I had heard from my group mates in that time makes me say to myself that I was very lucky to have family that I have now. As I lend my ears and began to listen to them, I realized that one of the factors that affect the attitude is the family background itself. I discover that there are few of us have sad stories hiding from their cheerful attitude. There are some of us shared their stories like how their family becomes a broken family. How they suffer from being left by a father in many times and just stand up, continue his life with a bright outlook in life. I can’t imagine if ever I will wear their shoes and can smile as what they are showing every day. I felt sad as I heard their story but I was also amaze how they can smile even though they that kind of family. I was amaze on how they were brave to face life and continues to go with the flow. From this activity, I learned that judging a person without knowing why his like that, why he acts like that is not right. We must think and understand first that maybe there’s a reason why he or she has those kinds of attitudes because of some personal issues like family issues.

After the sharing of the sad and happy stories about the dining table, we proceed to the team building activity which makes the whole class enjoyed much. The team building activity was through playing games with different members as the game will change. The first game was the “Connected”, I’m not sure of the title of the game we played but I remember that it has “connect” or “connected”. For the first time, I belong to a group were I don’t really know my group mates. There are few of them that I know them through their faces and names but it was my first time to talk end be with them. Actually, the game went fun and good. All of us are like crazy, jumping all around and shouting to the other members to move the cord to their body as fast as they could. Though we lose the game, being with the other people who you just knew is like you won since you gain friends which is very helpful to make the FTS successful in the future as we go together to attend the major field trip. The next game was the blowing of the paper fish. Another set of members were made in that game. In this activity, we disregard the shy that is within us and just go with the flow with effort. We were able to talk in the group, making some suggestions on how we control the game and reach the goal to win. I was surprise that there are some of us were very opposite when you look at them. I thought that our classmate was very a quite person and cannot do the blowing of fish and make some moves to make it to the goal but to my surprise, he was the very active person in our group and made our group to win this game. In this game, we really put our efforts not only for doing the activity but the effort to communicate and understand each other. I could say that with this activity, it helps us to have good communication towards others that is very useful in the FTS field trips and other activities soon. The last game is the very funny and the most part that I enjoyed. In this game, there were changes of members so again, we have different members in a group. We were ask to have a handkerchief that will be used to cover our eyes. This game is a game that needs great communication and cooperation in the group since you will need to listen carefully for the same sound that will be assigned in a group. For our group, we have the cat sound, others has the dog, fox, and many more. As the game started, all of us is shouting with the assigned sound we have to make, and it was very difficult to find your group hearing different kind of animal sounds. At first, I thought it was really difficult but as I find one of my group mates, it was easy to find others since two of us put our efforts. If at first, I wasn’t moving due to the reason that I was afraid to fall in the front of the stage, I was able to face it since I’m with my group mates. The answer to find your group is just to trust yourself, follow what has been said in the meeting, cooperate, and do have the good communication. The additional thing that you must also have is never let go with your group mates and I guess it’s the reason why we won. We won because we hold to each other.

Even though we felt like the three games is not enough to satisfy us and we're like child that just want more games, I could say that it was enough to somehow improve the bond within our class. Though not all was not given a chance to group different classmates and to be with them, I’m sure that each of us had a great time not only to the group of people that we only known before but also for the people we newly know. From these games also, we develop some skills that is very helpful in the FTS. FTS doesn’t only require individual efforts but a group effort to make it successful. I learn that cooperation and understanding to each other is very important for a group. It’s really a big help as we go to the minor and major field trips not only to enjoy more the activities and the trip but also to learn together and stick together as one. With all the activities we had in that day, though it was a tiring day, I was very thankful that I was able to attend that kind of activity. As we learn to accept others, understand each other, and being bonded in that day, makes a difference. A difference that even though we are very unique to each other, we can solve whatever problems may arrive soon and we can be happy and be bonded together.

Fifth Reflection

The 16th day of July was the fifth meeting of our FTS. There was sudden change of the time in meeting but I manage to adjust and attend on time. Before we start our meeting, we have the continuation of the filling up of form which doesn't really takes time since we will just sign some parts of it. So, the meeting tackles the interpersonal skills which will be held in the University Social Hall on July 21. Our president asked us to bring some material that will be use in the said activity and I find it more practical than buying stuffs which will be costly. Then, she also open the topic about the plane tickets and the range of dates and time that we will go in Manila and return in Davao. Another one is the minor field trip that will be destine in Davao Light and Power Co. (DLPC) since it has Data Center which will be a great one for us to explore and visit. We also agreed that we will just go there with ourselves before 8:00 am or to be exact, we must go there at 7:30 am with a complete, proper uniform. The update of the current amount of the money in the bank was also included in the meeting.

Fourth Reflection

The fourth meeting in our FTS was July 7 in the afternoon and it was held in IC Lab2. The meeting includes the discussion regarding with the payments and also the other concerns of the students. As regards to the payments, our president discuss to us when is the ideal date to pay and how much we will pay in a particular range of days. Our president also divide the total payment that we must pay before the 1st day of September will touch down. We also pay the 500 pesos for the downpayment of the hotel that we will be staying soon. The fourth meeting ended well though worries for the payment is there.

Third Meeting Reflection

Every meeting in our subject Technopreneurship didn’t failed to surprise me. The meeting was always fun and it includes many unexpected happenings like what happened from the past two meetings. Our jaw still drops with our facilitator’s surprises in the third meeting in technopreneurship but still amaze in the reasons that everything or in any events, the presence of technopreneurship is there and can be applied. It is usual and I guess it cannot be avoided that there were still late in our class and if we will talk about their reasons, well there are many. Maybe, there are some certain things that came along in their way that cause them to being late in the class like forgetting to wake up early, or some unexpected happenings in going in the school, and many more. But whatever the reason of being late in the class, late comers should face the consequences. As what our facilitator said to us, being late is an immortal sin and since it’s a crime, then sinners must face the consequence. In the first meeting, the consequence of being a late comer will perform any talents. You can sing, dance or even roll in the floor. As our facilitator will be satisfied in your talent, then that’s the time that you are allow to sit in your seat and will attend the class. Letting yourself to hide in your shell and avoid the consequence will be free to leave the class and will receive an absent mark in the class attendance. Therefore, it’s better not to be late if you’re too shy to stand in front and do your talent in the class.

In the second meeting, there were still late and the numbers of it is still the same with the first meeting which is not good. As what I said earlier, in our class, being late is an immortal sin and many of us were still late. Though the late comers do their talents in front of the class in the last meeting, they were still late and do the same thing. The purpose of doing the consequence is to lessen the late comers as possible. The consequences serve as the discipline for each student included in the class but it seems that the objective of the consequences was not followed since doing the talent in front is not so difficult to do since the class were used to it. So as a result, there were changes regarding to the consequences for late comers. Instead of performing any talents in the class, the late comers will provide a breakfast in the whole class. Knowing that the class has fifty more students, it will be costly for the late students to provide foods that will make the student’s tummies full. I think if there are two late comers in the class, fifty pesos is not enough. Though I didn’t yet experience of being late in the class, I’m still afraid or even more afraid to be late after knowing the new rule. As I heard the new rule, I just said to myself that I will wake up as early as I can to be able to catch up the class without having the record of being late especially if the money will be consume. Though this rule will be costly, I find it good in terms of disciplining the students from being late in the class. It was effective and was proven in the fourth meeting which happen last Tuesday. Many of us were so early, worried to face the consequence. Though there are few who were still late, at least, it was lessen and for the next meeting, we will welcome with open arms the breakfast that is waiting for us to full our tummies.

Another thing happened which is part in the surprises in the third meeting is the application of technopreneurship. We were ask to bring out a clean short bond paper for that day’s activity and unfortunately, we don’t have it. I guess no one of us in the class has the required paper in the activity. We panicked and some of us go out just to buy short bond paper. There is also a classmate who bought two rims of short bond papers and since our class is technopreneurship, the bond papers were sold two pesos each. Though the worth of it is not too high, still the coins count. This only proves that whenever people are in time of needs, you can be a technopreneur and will earn money from it. So, after buying a short bond paper worth two pesos, we proceed to the activity. The class were divided into three groups based in the columns that also forming three. The first thing that was showed to us was the three images and it was assigned in the three groups. The first image pictured out a poor scenario of a child and a father. The second image is the two ladies which has unpleasant personality in terms of physical appearances. The third image is a scenario about the rally of workers. Each image has meanings and we have a task that we will have sharing of thoughts within the group. The group must provide solutions to ease the scenario illustrated in the images. In the activity, we have given time to jot down our insights in giving the solutions as well as the sharing of ideas in the group which is presented in front of the class. The part of the meeting that I like is the sharing of thoughts regarding with the three pictures. I like the sharing of the possible solutions that we can provide if we were the person in the shown images. I find it good also since the sharing of thoughts is not only just saying burst of thoughts but it must include a technopreneur kind of thinking. The first group was assigned into the first image which was about what a father can do if he doesn’t have any sources to live and to sustain the daily needs of his family. Though there are confusions within the first group, I find their thoughts as a nice one and it makes sense and worth to hear it. The first group’s representative said many things about what they can do in aiding the poor situation in the image. As what I remember, he stated that being part of the family were parents doesn’t have enough money to sustain your needs is very difficult especially if your parents is unemployed. He also shared a true story about his friend in some school. His story was really inspiring especially for us students that whatever we have, or whatever situation we are in, these must be not a hindrance to finish our studies and make our steps to attain our dream careers, our dream paths. So the story goes like this. His classmate was studying and after of the class or before the start of the class picking of recyclable things is what he do. This recyclable thing was sold to help himself as well as his parents through paying his fare in going to school. Whoever he is, he was really amazing that even though he has that kind of situation, he was one of the best students in the field of programming. He doesn’t have computer since he cannot afford it but he can do well and excel in the programming subjects. Back in the true subject, the group one’s representative present also an idea of helping themselves through taking scholarships or being a working student. In this way, they can help their father. Also, they presented the idea if he will be able to graduate, he will take first a job to earn money. As the time that he has enough money that will serve as a capital, he will make a studio. He cited that embracing the alternative thinking is the way to make life better and a way how technopreneur thinks. Creating a studio means that their citing the idea that people must not settled as an employee only but to strive to be an employer. This studio is not only for the idea of being an employer and just benefit in own self but also to help others. He said to the class that the studio will serve as the training ground of the working students. This is a kind of program were students work for them in exchange of their service and they will receive money and also could gain more experience than just staying in the four corners of a classroom. There answers were not really the exact point that meets the answers that our facilitator wants. But the ideas they presented was good for me. As what our facilitator said, their answers fit in the second image. As what I said, the second image tackles about the qualifications to be hired in a distinct job. Our facilitator asked us that what if we will be in the position of the two women in the image that doesn’t have the qualification needed by the employer. This image as I said has the two women. The upper part is a woman who doesn’t have pleasant face. The second girl is a fat person who does the peace sign.

The questions that we must answer individually are these: What if we don’t have the good physical appearance in the position we are applying? How can we get our life better if no one will accept us because of our deficiency? Since I’m part of the second group which was assigned in the second image, I also answer those and after the brainstorming we made, our representative present the idea of majority in the group. She said that being an ugly, fat or even a person who doesn’t have a good appearance is not a barrier to make life better and to have job. There are many jobs right now that can be done through online which doesn’t requires personal meet ups. In this way, you can still earn money and there’s no need to wear uniforms and travel everyday just to go to work. As there will be an enough money from the online job, that’s the time of building own business. It’s likely the same with the first group’s ideas. Maybe, at first, you may find that life is really unfair. Being rejected because you’re not their type or just simply you’re ugly is really depressing. You may just question yourself why you were born without those qualities. You may be down and will just lose hope for yourself. Instead of acting like it’s the end of the world, you must face it and just deal with it. You must not stop there and instead of weeping of being rejected, find ways to attain what you want. Life is always unfair and things can be changed if you will make a move. In connection to this, for me, the third image is also same idea about what I am referring. The third image was about the workers who do the rallies because of not enough salary or there are issues regarding with their right. This kind of scenario is very common. Once that the human rights was stepped down, the common solutions that were presented is to shout like a mad people to their bosses and making a scene in the roads or in the front of the building. There are some alternative ways than doing those things like what the third group suggested in that meeting. Their representative said that instead of participating in the rally and consumes your energy in shouting in the road, saving your energy and think what could be a possible thing that you can do in your situation is better. You must think what could be an alternative way to earn money if being an employee is not successful. As what our facilitator said, if you’re not happy with your job, then quit. It’s just simple as that rather than making some noise out there. If quitting is the options you decided to take, then building up a business could be a right option. With enough money as a capital, join with courage and knowledge for the business you want to create then you’re ready to put up your own. Another thing that the third group suggested is allowing many investors in the country to make the business livelier. After the sharing of ideas about the given situations, our facilitator reveals that these three images are connected to each other. The first and the third images will end up to the second image. This explains that whatever situation that a person could have, the alternative way to ease the situation is the option. It’s an option were a person could build his own business for his own good and also for the other people who have needs also. This also proves that being wise and possessing an alternative mindset is really helpful and could change things enormously.

Actually, there are many suggestions that came from the groups but I forgot the rest of it and what I remember is the one that marks in my brain. I mostly like all the part of the sharing. Everyone have its own perception of what we can do of being stuck in the situation presented to us by our facilitator. We provided the possible solutions that we can give to aid the problem and think like a technopreneur. I also like the part that our facilitator cited some example connected to the three images. He took the example of the beggars in the road. He said that giving them money won’t help them and just teaching them to be dependent. As you gave a one peso or any amount of money, they will keep on doing that again and again and that how their life goes. It’s the same thought of what Confucius said. I can’t said the same thing he said but the thought of it is that providing what they need without any effort won’t work and help them. Instead, you must teach them how to get what they want so that they can have a better life than providing the money they ask just for the purpose of surviving in a day. There are times that your assumptions are wrong and just let the situation worse. So, to help them in their living, you can still provide money for them through letting them to have work. In this way, they will learn that working hard to get something you need and you want is one of the best feeling in the world. It could also a great experience for them that can really help them to sustain their needs for lifetime. In sharing moments in this subject, I also earn not only the knowledge regarding with the world of technopreneurship but also the reality of life. I just learned that helping other people is good but firstly must consider things before lending your hand to them and weigh things if it really helps them. Though you have the good intention to help them, it’s not enough and the basis that you will just slip it out without thinking what could be the right thing to do.

Asking me what could be the least like or what I hate in the sharing happened in the third meeting is a difficult question to answer. I really like the thoughts I perceived from our facilitator as well from my classmates. Learnings are the best thing that a person could have and I took the sharing as a positive part which I find it really helpful. It’s a helpful one for me because of the reasons that I can reflect it to myself and also I can gain awareness of what are the happenings in my surroundings that I didn’t notice. But then, there are some point in the third meeting’s sharing that I least like not for the reason that it doesn’t make sense or I didn’t get the idea of it but the truth behind the images. The three images doesn’t only serve as our activity to produce ideas as a technopreneur but it also illustrate the current situation of most Filipinos in the country. I don’t like the reality that those pictures shown to us really happen and until now, it continuously happening. Until now, many of the Filipinos are those people whose mindsets are same with the images. Like in the third image which is about the workers. Until now, there are still group of people who fight their rights through doing the rally. Fighting what is your right as an employee is not wrong but did shouting and walking all along in the road satisfy you and answers your problem? I’m not saying that the way of other people like doing the rally stuff is wrong but people nowadays must think logically. Rally can cause many troubles and sometimes, it can cause one life or even many lives just to push what the people asking to their employer. There are any instances that many people end up to injuries because of making a scene in front of their company. Therefore, we cannot assure the welfare of the people who will participate the rally because we don’t know what will happen as the moment that people will try to shout their concerns. As what I said, it can cause many problems and another effect of it is that it can cause problems in road like having the heavy traffic in the road. It can also disturb other people because of the noise cause by the rally. This is the reality and people must do what the third group suggested. If only people will embrace the alternative mindset, it’s a great possibility to lessen these problems cause by rally. I also don’t like that real thing about the employment. Many of the employees rally because they find their jobs that there is something wrong with it.  It’s a natural thing that this occurs but it’s still disturbing in the sense that this means something about in our country’s economy though I can’t point out it clearly.

If there are things that I liked in the sharing in the second images, there are also some part of it that I least like. As I said, I didn’t say that I don’t like how it was presented or the idea itself but the point that it could be possibly happen if there are some crazy employers who will just accept only the people that passed the qualification of beauty even the work is so different of its basis. As our facilitator said the situation in the second image, I just laugh about it, thinking that it’s a funny situation. Though I find it like a joke, somehow I manage to digest the given situation in my mind. While trying to answer the question of what we can do if we were the two women in the image, questions pops out in y head. What if the qualification to be hire in a particular job is the beauty of faces and the perfect curves of the body? What if being a programmer, a web designer or a system analyst must have a gorgeous body like the sexiest FHM models like Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera? What if IT companies will hire an applicant whose smile can leap the hearts of all the women in town and can drools every creature in the world as he show his perfect abs? It sounds crazy for me but I don’t want to stop the possibilities that it could happen someday. If it will happen and the mind of these employers will be invade by criticisms of physical appearance, I will find it so humiliating, disgusting, degrading, and whatsoever words that can describe  of the feeling of being disappointed with this kind of standard. We cannot change our faces nor can decide what will our face and body looks like. In the process of giving birth of a child, even the parents who made the baby can’t decide that she or he could have a bright eyes like Zac Efron, pouty lips like what Angelina Jolie have, and perfect body like Brad Pitt’s. It’s not right to make it as a standard. Having the height requirement is enough and I think it’s a nonsense thing if it will be the one of the basis for hiring an applicant. If it will be the standard of being hire to a distinct job, consuming time like 150000 years is useless since face and the body is the important factor to be not rejected. There are many people who have great skills but don’t have the faces and bodies like what the great celebrities in the Hollywood have. There are many people who can make amazing things but because of this kind of standard, their skills will be turn into a trash and I’m expecting that the economy of the country which had this kind of standard won’t reach the zenith of success. If it possible that it will be implemented in the future, people in that generation must go back in the past and reflect the importance of being an open-minded which is very important to be a great technopreneurs and entrepreneurs. For the technopreneurs, face and bodies is not important as long as they can contribute to the betterment of the business as well as to the economy. Well, I’m positive though that it will not happen especially in our current situation regarding of the status of our economy.

Although the idea of my classmates about the first image, I find the image itself that it’s really the true to life situation and this situation is very alarming. It’s not new for me to see beggars in street. It’s not new for me to see a family in the road, walking under the heat of the sun, finding food together carrying their children. But, every time I see these kinds of people, I’m wondering what will happened to them in the next day. What will be the future of their children if even they can’t have a permanent and a comfortable place to stay in? If they can’t even eat three times a day? It’s impossible for them to send their children in school and therefore, the possibilities of having a better life in the future is less. As soon as these children will grow up, they will just become like what they’re parents do and what they’re parents are. As what I heard from our teacher and what I read from the book of Rizal, youth is the hope of the country. We, young people are one who is in charge in our country’s future. Principally, we are the one will replace the great people in the community and will continue the good legacy that was started. But how will be the future will be in the good side if the numbers of the children who can’t afford to go to school are continuously increasing? I just realize how this situation massively affects the state of a country. It can affect the economy of the country for the reason that there will be few children that can lead and can help the country in the future. It’s like in the situation that, as the old technoprenuers will end on their terms, no one will continue what was started and will just vanished. Many problems will also arise not only within the family but also in the community. I may sound like I’m too in the topic of technopreneurship far but it’s one of the possibilities and the reality. I also hate the fact that these people who don’t have enough money to sustain their daily needs are those people who didn’t control their family. If they can’t afford to feed the twelve stomachs in three times a day, then why they produce so many children? I’m aware that there are some verse in the bible quoted that go to the earth and multiply, but is it right to make dozens of children when they can’t make their roles in the family as a good parents. They must remember that being a parent is not an easy job. As what my parents said to me, to be in their shoes is very difficult especially when providing the needs of the family. Love is really important and that’s true but money matters also. You cannot buy all the things in the world, but money can feed the stomach of your children, can provide comfortable place to stay in, and can send your children in a good school. Based in the image in the activity, a father doesn’t have a job and don’t have other source of income. Ideally, a father should be the one that will provide the needs of his family. If this is the case, then how they he can provide and secure a good future to his family? Well, thanks to the alternative mindset and somehow this can be solved. I guess, there are many situations like this not only here in the Philippines but also in the other country. Regarding with this matter, I think that there are many ways to solve a problem. If a father has this kind of situation, he can do many things which can at least provide the important needs of his family. He must stand up and face it with determination and courage to do something with his situation.

In relation to technopreneurship, our facilitator discuss about the importance of technopreneuship in many aspects which I like it too. I learn more what can tecnhopreneurship do and as an IT student, I understand how this subject is really important. So back in the discussion, the three situations above that I stated has something to do with technopreneurship. The three images were connected and the answer of each situation of the three images is pointing out the use of technopreneurship. In technopreneurship, I become aware that there’s an alternative mindset to lead an individual to become a successful person in his chosen field. Alternative mindset is a kind of mindset which has the purpose to strive hard not aiming to be an employee only but to be an employer that creates and owns a company. I find it really useful in the three situations that were shown to us since it talks about the possible situation in the absence of career and problems with employment. As I said, one of the importances of technopreneurship is for the employment creation which the application of alternative mindset is included. Technopreneurship is a big help when it comes to employment creation. It can be prove when you notice the prosperous cities in the Philippines and also in the other countries like Japan and South Korea. Our generation today is currently in the time of modernization. Huge companies are no longer belonging to the business ventures that use simple tools in daily activities. They are now more dependent in the product of today’s technology which has a better effect in the routine of working. Since the world today embraces the touch of technology, it could help in the field of employment creation as modern companies will be put up in the cities. In relation to this, technopreneurship is also a helpful one in terms of local resources and the decentralization and diversification of businesses. Aside from employment creation and what I mentioned earlier, technopreneurship also promotes the use of technology in the business world. As the huge companies are more dependent in the touch of technology, many great people who have intelligent minds will do more technology products which will help more the city or the country. As this will happen, that’s the attack of promoting the culture of entrepreneurship and capital formation in the country. As there will be more business ventures in a particular place, it makes the life of the people more improved since there are many opportunities to grab on. Technopreneurship is the answer of today’s problem for the reason that it could help in many ways which has the main goal and that is to help the people and the economy of a country.

Our facilitator also include the course model SEED in the discussion which I find it good to hear since I knew what’s with this SEED. SEED stands for Self Mastery, Environment Mastery, Enterprise Mastery and the Development of Business Plan. As I remember, our facilitator gave us hints about this course model in the first and second meeting though it was not really elaborated. SEED was explain more to us in the third meeting but I remember the most is how I laugh so hard as our facilitator cracks a funny thing connected to his discussion. Well, there are times that it takes me time to digest what’s the joke of it but still I like the point that the class is not always in a serious mode. So what is S in SEED? Self Mastery is about knowing yourself associated with passion. Being a self mastered is a person who knows himself very well in the sense that he knows what he wants. From the word self mastery, it’s not about how you are intelligent but it’s about the inner skills you have as a technopreneur. If a person is a self mastered already, there’s a big possibilities that he will pass through the challenges successfully especially in times of problems in his business. Technopreneurs must possess the self mastery to be able to cope up easily in times of problems and can achieve the dream success since being a person possessing the self mastery is a person who is competitive, risk takers like like Steve Jobs, and positive to its outcomes. Environment Mastery is about the forming of ideas and looking for opportunities through observing the environment that you have. It can be done through serendipity walks like you’re just taking your moment then accidentally, you just came up a nice idea. It can be done also through observing the trends in the country and think what could be a possible solution to address it. As what our facilitator said, being an environment mastered is a person who seeks opportunities instead of a problem. He gives an example of it like in a rally. Since the place where rally is held is a crowed place, you can sell ice waters and foods in there. As there many people, you can earn money and it depends in how you seek opportunity in this kind of situation. Next is the Enterprise Mastery which tackles about the knowledge on how to start a business and how to deal with it. Our facilitator also includes the integration of the process in management which I remember somehow since I already knew about this because of our subject Project Management. This includes the Planning, Organizing, Directing and Controlling. The last one is the Development of Business Plan which I honestly can’t remember the whole part of it in the discussion. What I just remember is that, it’s all about the development of a business plan through making a business plan then presenting it.

As I said, I don’t really hate or dislike the sharing happens in the four corners in our room. All the ideas and thoughts that I heard from our facilitator and from my classmates are things that must be treasured. Because of the sharing happened in the third meeting, I just found out that each of us has an idea about being a technopreneur and what technopreneurship is all about. I’m also blessed to learn something new and very important in that day not only about technopreneurship but also the lesson about life. I’m also amaze that every meeting, surprises of our facilitator never fails me. Though it can risk our money with his surprises, at least we learn the real essence of being a technopreneur who seeks opportunities in any situations. I’m also looking forward that every meeting in this subject is a real fun and challenging especially with the new policy of being a late comer since it will make our stomach full. Weighing if what is heavier than the most like and least like? Well, I guess most like is heavier.
